The Pico 4 headset is available in the consumer version with a Pro version for enterprise and college/university. It is currently available in most parts of the world, and coming to North America very soon.
In addition to the top specifications, educators and schools are welcoming the Pico headset as it is separate from the Facebook/Meta and other ecosystems that challenge many school privacy guidelines. It also is set up from the go to work with a variety of Mobile Device Managers (MDM), ideal for business and schools with deployments of dozens to hundreds or more headsets.
The Pico 4 headset features a Qualcomm XR2, 8 Core, 64-Bit, 2.84GHz processor with 8GB storage and optional 128 or 256 GB. The LCD display resolution is 4,320 x 2,160 (2,160 x 2,160 per eye) with pancake lenses and a 105 degree field of view, and a 72/90 Hz refresh rate, making it a higher resolution, better immersion, and high quality display compared to Quest 2.
The Pico 4 also includes a more variable and improved IPD adjustment, vibration sensor, is less bulky, but does weight slightly more than the Quest 2. The battery has been moved onto the strap of the Pico 4 as a counterweight, improving the weight distribution and comfort. Pico has made the Pico 4E Specifications (PDF) available to our members.
As with all headsets, access to apps is critical. Pico 4 already has a huge library of business, productivity, training, and educational apps having served the educational and corporate industry with their previous headset for several years. Pico continues to negotiate with the top game developers and already has over 150 VR games in their Pico store including Virtual Desktop, Superhot VR, Space Pirate Trainer, Arizona Sunshine, Eleven Table Tennis, Red Matters, Nature Treks, Warplanes WWI Fighters, and more. They are releasing new games and apps weekly.
Our EDVR Virtual Hardware Team has been doing comparison work with the Pico headsets and others over the past few months, keeping updated and informed to help make our hardware decisions. They will be discussing the Pico 4 headset during their November 16 Virtual Hardware Meetup in AltspaceVR.
Thank you to the UK Pico Interactive division for keeping us updated and presenting these workshops.
