Educators in VR has long been a partner with Girls STEAM Institute (GSI) and we are proud to support their 2023 Reach for the Stars: Adventure & Innovation event October 7, 2023, locally in Sunriver, Oregon. The event will be streamed to Zoom. We are planning on watch parties in ENGAGE XR of the keynote speakers later in October. If you live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, there are still seats available for this exciting in-person event that supports high school age girls exploring future careers and skills in science and innovation.
Designed for students, parents, and supporters, the event begins at the SHARC Benham Hall in Sunriver, Oregon, with an all day two-track event. The main track is for high school aged girls from around the world participating in person and through Zoom with science technology experts from the space industry and NASA with interactive workshops.
The second track is for the parents and adults with workshops and keynotes including Diane McClelland, founder of Girls STEAM Institute; Dr. Tom Furness of the Virtual World Society; Prashant Shah of Intel; Deborah Todd, MBA of Longevity Playbook; science fiction author Matt Costello; Dennis Weeks of the Center for Career Services; Karen Therese, renowned soul, jazz, pop and traditional Native American vocalist; and Lorelle VanFossen of Educators in VR. The speakers will be addressing the needs of parents and others to encourage girls to pursue STEAM entrepreneurship and leadership careers.
The evenings special event is held in the famous Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory, renowned for their dark skies viewing of the galaxy and beyond. The “Evening Under the Stars” event brings the girls and parents together to look into space and be inspired.
Many of the alumni of the Girls STEAM Institute have gone on to lead careers in computer, space, education, and technology industries around the world after being inspired by their membership and participation in GSI workshops and special events.
Educators in VR produces the annually Girls STEAM Institute Business Challenge in VR bringing together high school girls from around the world to compete with teams on a business hack-a-thon business development project based upon the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Over the years, a few of the projects moved into production, creating new job opportunities for their communities.
The Reach for the Stars event registration is USD $50, with a special rate with added membership for $129. You do not need to attend to support this worthwhile first-time event. Sponsors are welcome with donations ranging from $500 up.
