Join Tom Nickel for an ongoing discussion in ENGAGE XR on Iain McGilchrist’s book, “The Matter With Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions, and the Unmaking of the World,” an insightful look at our divided brain and how to find wholeness in the virtual and real.

Iain McGilchrist’s book discusses how our modern world reflects the fragmented perspective of the brain’s left hemisphere, valuing abstraction over holistic experience. McGilchrist argues we must reintegrate our divided brains to rediscover wisdom, empathy and interconnectedness. Discussions will focus on education and implications for existing systems, helping us better understand how to push the boundaries of both education and our brains.

Tom Nickel, Ph.D. is a teacher and digital media explorer. A pioneer in online teaching and learning with a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences, he publishes regular articles and YouTube videos on his thoughts and discoveries in the XR metaverse and immersive education. He has lead educational and personal growth events in VR since 2018 through Educators in VR, Tripp meditation app, and on his own with his successful weekly sessions in the metaverse on death and loss.
